Woking for God: The Ultimate Bulletin Board
There's a guy who says that all Democrats are Satanists.There's another guy, who says he's a preacher from northern West Virginia, who sometimes calls himself "Hatedorn." He's a trip.
Another high-toned old Christian lady loves to quote biblical scriptures containing graphic examples about how God is going to tear the scrotums off men who reject Him.
Another likes to call poor women who live in the projects "brood mares," and loves to talk about all the cars he owns. He apparently has bootstraps longer than his pecker and he claims he has picked himself up by them.
When the HuntingtonNews.net Bulletin Board began a few years ago, I had high hopes that it might bring about some solidarity among caring folks in Huntington and that they would come up with ideas about how to change Huntington for the better.
I was wrong as I usually am. It has only brought more confusion to an already confused city.
Most online bulletin boards are awash with grammatical and spelling errors and this one is no exception. One guy, who claims he's more godly than I am, started a thread called "Woking For God." I think he meant "Working for God," and I asked the question" If one is woking for God, what kind of wok does one use?" No one saw the humor and the guy who originated the thread didn't change the thread's headline.
I read the BB to remind me that there is little hope of changing things, either in Huntington or West Virginia or the Middle East.
You might want to do the same, if youi want to abandon all hope.

The good Lord knows I tried, Dave. I tried to bring a little order out of the chaos. I tried to rein in the more outrageous posts. I tried to stop the name calling.
Didn't work. It wasn't allowed to work for the very strange reason that my co-administrator is more liberal than I am and belives that no attempt should be made to "censor" folks.
Well, as an old journalist, I too am against censorship. But I think the board goes well beyond opinions and degenerates into needless name-calling and deliberate attempts to hurt others by revealing personal information about them.
It is truly unfortunate. I also had high hopes for the board. Maybe you and I should sit down and figure out a way to start one where we could exercise some control. Just a thought.

Terry Hagedorn doesn't just claim to be a preacher, he is one. What's more he has never called himself "hatedorn". That is an epithet he received from HNN.
He is inflammatory and he is a doctrinaire republican. Bob Kelly would love him.
I accept Bill's apologies... but he must understand he was not the only one I had a problem with. The board got (and still is) totally out of control, with name calling and deliberate attempts to harm one another. I could not stand by and let it happen and saw no point in continuing to beat my head against the wall.
As far as Hagedorn, yeah, he was called that by others on the board first, but he adopted it as his own. And, for a preacher, he sure preaches hate.
Love is a terrible thing to waste... maybe even more than a "mind." There is so much confusion and so much hate that no one is willing to sit down and spend even 2 minutes to try to understand where the other person is coming from.
The "knee-jerk" reaction is that Israel is "over-reacting."
Let's imagine this: a hate group (who thinks America has no right to exist) sets up 10 miles inside Mexico and lauches rockets at San Antonio.
The US says, "I don't think so!" and lanuches raids on Mexico to stop this B.S.. We kill 100, 200, 900 CIVILIANS. Is ANYONE is this country going to object? This is not the unproked attack of Iraq. This is a legitimate use of arms to defend a country.
I have no truck with those who would destroy Israel. I have no truck with those who would destroy US. But the war in Iraq fits neither category.
Am I the only one who finds the timing of these actions questionable? Hmm. Let's see, there is an election in 2006 which might make a difference in how we deal with these issuses. And we are expected to believe that our Goverment will tell us the truth is these toubled times.
( I HATE this. I am expected to swalow whatever the Bush Administration sends out! )

I have known Pastor Hagedorn for over thirty years. The only "hate" that I have heard him speak or preach is the hate of sin. He doesn't hate the individual sinner but the sins that they commit against God. Many people twist what he says into hate speech because it helps to add fuel to fire up their personal agendas.
You may not like what he says or how he says it or agree with him, but I know he will stand behind what he says and prove it if necessary. Terry has never back down from criticism or threats. He never has, and never will, change his biblical stand.
He certainly has made a change in the area where God has placed him.
Pastor Hagedorn, with the help and grace of God, took over a church of less that fifteen people in the early 1970s that was house in a one room school house with outhouse facilities that was located about 3 miles from the main highway. Today they have a much larger congreation and much nicer facilities along State Hwy 7 just outside of Reedsville, WV.
If you really want to know what he preaches and teaches, why not attend one of the services at the church. Than is unless you are afraid that doing so would change your attitude about him into a positive one.
